Some people might call me a coffee fanatic. My loved ones may have a point about my love affair with coffee. I called Green Mountain Coffee in Vermont last month to see if a special edition coffee from July of 2002 would ever hit the shelves again. Like all good coffee drinkers I have a variety of coffee machines to get me through the day. My French press, my Keurig, my Dolce Gusto, my drip brewer, and of course a container of instant coffee in my office desk drawer. By far my most used coffee machine is my Keurig Coffee brewer, and now thanks to Green Mountain Coffee it will be brewing many extra cups well into the summer.
Green Mountain Coffee offers seasonal varieties of k-cup for my Keurig and typically I ignore these and stick to my usual assortment of Nantucket blends, and Colombian fair trade. When I have a cup of coffee I want to know it is coffee, plain and simple. However, I was in Keene, NH recently buying my usual assortment of k-cups and a season blend jumped out at me. There is was on the shelf with a bright green lid: Island Coconut. I enjoy coffee and I enjoy coconut, but the question remained would I enjoy them together? I took the gamble and tossed two k cups into my basket and checked out.
Cautiously I brewed my "Island Coconut" coffee before work one morning, throwing three dollars in my pocket if the coconut coffee didn't work and I had to stop at Dunkin Donuts for some "normal" java. I ended up needing the money not because the coffee was disgusting but rather I had drunk the entire contents of my to go cup before arriving at work. Island Coconut Special Edition Green Mountain coffee had me at the first sip. The coconut is subtle and with a splash of soy milk it pops. You are still are aware you're drinking coffee it's just a hint of promise that I love. It's the promise summer is coming, it's a promise that winter will pass, and before I know it I'll be on my porch with an iced coffee watching traffic pass by.
Green Mountain may be getting calls from me in the future. The past flavor of 2002, "Summer Sunrise" has been replaced by the new 2011 "Island Coconut." I better quickly buy several boxes so when I get to forgetting summer next January I can be taken away on the promise of things to come. I guess I am a coffee fanatic and I am pretty sure I will stay that way.
To find your very own Green Mountain special edition K cups you can go to either the Green Mountain Coffee or the Keurig website. The Green Mountain coffee website is: http://www.greenmountaincoffee.com/?ck=1 It is a great website where you can view all of the seasonal specials. The Keurig website is: http://www.keurig.com/. Hands down right now the combination of keurig brewing, and Green Mountain together have created the best coffee I have had since 2002.
